Sew Not Complicated is currently only online, but local pick up is available.

The amount of fabric you need to complete each of your project will depend on the project itself and the size. Each pattern has a table listing the amount of fabric required for each view and according to each size.
These estimates are based on the width of the fabric and tend to be generous enough for you to complete your project according to the instructions. Make sure you buy enough to complete your project since the same fabric may not be available at a later time.

The minimum cut for each type of fabric is 0.5 meter (the minimum amount), this is why the price listed for fabrics are per 1/2 meter (per 0.5m) unless otherwise specified (i.e. bundles or remnants). To purchase more than 0.5 meter, the quantity must be adjusted by the proper multiplier. For example, for 1 meter, please select 2 for the quantity. If you need 2 meters, the quantity should be 4 (4 times 0.5 meter).

Fabric can be expensive and we should be mindful of fabric waste. So, if you need a specific cut of fabric, you can contact us to arrange that. For example, if you need 1.3 meter and do not wish to buy 1.5 m (quantity 3), contact us and we can arrange for a draft order to be prepared.
Unfortunately, the configuration of the webshop and e-commerce platform doesn't allow for the exact input of the quantity required.

If ordering more than 0.5 meter, piece will be cut in one continuous length. The fabric will be sent folded.

Whether you are just starting or have been sewing for years, you should pick a pattern that speaks to you. Making a garment because you are able to but have no intention of wearing kind of defeats the purpose of a handmade wardrobe.

Sewing pattern designers usually give an indication of the level of difficulty for each of their pattern ranging from beginner, confident or advanced beginner, intermediate to advanced. These are indications only. An advanced sewist can totally find satisfaction in
making a pattern rated for beginner. As a beginner however, you may feel overwhelmed if you pick a pattern that requires a lot of technical skills. Depending on your personality, you could see it as a challenge and fight your way through it, learning a lot in the process, or you may totally get lost and throw it all away.

The pattern collection in the shop offers several options for beginners including:

  • Grainline Studio Lark Tee, Linden Sweatshirt or Scout Tee
  • Merchant & Mills 101 Trouser and Fielder
  • Megan Nielsen Briar Sweater and T-shirt or the River dress and top
  • Wiksten Shift Dress & Top
  • Closet Core Patterns Fiore Skirt
